New Delhi, 3 January 2018: A puppet show based on the life and teachings of Swami Vivekananda was organized by the Ramakrishna Mission, New Delhi in collaboration with the Bhartiya Lok Kala Mandal, Udaipur in the Parliament Library Building today. Lok Sabha Speaker Smt. Sumitra Mahajan; Members of Parliament and other dignitaries watched the show. The puppet show depicted various incidents and stories from the life of Swami Vivekananda known in his pre-monastic life as Narendra Nath Datta. The unique show, with high-class background music and special effects, conceptualized colourful performances by lifelike puppets through the nimble fingers of the dedicated team of puppeteers which enlivened the message of the great saint. Some of the incidents depicted during the puppet show included: Narendra’s mother pouring water on the child to cool his irrepressible energy; Narendra ignoring the warning of an elderly neighbour while swinging from a tree; Narendra managing a situation with the help of policeman when a friend falls ill during a boat ride; and Narendra serving an injured seaman, who had volunteered to help the boys lift a trapeze, and so on. The puppet show was specially commissioned to commemorate the 150th Birth Anniversary of Swami Vivekananda in the year 2013.
