New Delhi, 13 June 2017: Shri M. Venkaiah Naidu, Union Minister of Information & Broadcasting, Urban Development and Housing & Urban Poverty Alleviation presented the 100 volumes of “The Collected Works of Mahatma Gandhi” (CWMG) to Lok Sabha Speaker Smt. Sumitra Mahajan, today, in Parliament House for placing the same in the Parliament Library. Speaking on the occasion, Smt. Sumitra Mahajan lauded the exemplary collection of books brought out by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting and hoped that this monumental work would be a valuable guide for the Members of Parliament in the Parliament Library. She recalled that when Indian Parliamentary Delegations go abroad, people there fondly remember the life and teachings of Mahatma Gandhi, the Father of the Nation. As such, the creation of awareness among the common people in the present times about the Gandhian principles has become all the more important, Smt. Mahajan said. Remembering Gandhiji, Shri M. Venkaiah Naidu said that this compilation is an invaluable, rich heritage for the younger generation to inculcate Gandhian thoughts in their deeds and actions. In this series, Gandhiji’s writings, scattered all over the world, were collected and constructed with stringent academic discipline and with an ethical sense of loyalty. The Collected Works of Mahatma Gandhi (CWMG) published by the Publications Division, is a monumental compilation of Gandhiji’s words as he spoke and wrote, day after day, year after year, beginning with the year 1884 till his assassination on January 30, 1948.The CWMG-original-KS-edition, called so after Prof. K. Swaminathan, the chief architect of the original series, had taken about 38 years in the making (1956-94). The electronic version of SCMG (e-CWMG) has already been released on 08 September 2015 and the printing of the completed authenticated 100 volumes of CWMG books has been done from the Master Copy of the original KS-Edition (brought out by Publications Division in association with Gujarat Vidyapeeth, Ahmedabad).
